Joining a nonprofit board can be a rewarding experience and a great way of using your corporate skills to advance a cause that you are passionate about. However, as a volunteer it is also very time consuming and demanding. What are some of the questions you should ask yourself before joining a board in order to be sure that you will make a great board member? What are the actual responsibilities of a board member and are you expected to fundraise for the organization? What type of nonprofit will be the best fit for you and how can you avoid some of the pitfalls by finding out the right information about the organization before committing to a board?
Come and learn more about what nonprofits are looking for when recruiting board members, hear about some of the challenges in board governance and find out more information to guide your decision making when thinking about joining a nonprofit board.
