BRCI Profile

The Bedford VA Research Corporation, Inc. (BRCI) is a stand-alone, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) Massachusetts non-profit corporation established in 2001 under the authority granted by Congress to find alternative funding for educational programs and innovative medical research for veterans. The impact of BRCI is felt by the over 19,000 veterans who receive health care and other support services through the Bedford VA Healthcare System.

BRCI works with non-VA funders and donors to support projects for 65 principal investigators at the VA Bedford Healthcare System with expertise in homelessness, mental health, reintegration, substance abuse and addiction, smoking cessation, suicide prevention, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Alzheimer’s and geriatrics, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Training and support programs offered through the VA Bedford Healthcare system include dementia and aging, caregiver education, and education for Veterans transitioning to civilian life such as, entrepreneurship, workforce development, financial management skills, and reintegration. Each program helps to heal and educate Veterans and their families and has a direct and immediate impact on the well-being of those who served, their families, the community, and the caregivers. The more options we are able to provide, the greater the reach.

BRCI serves in an administrative role and receives no financial support from the VA. All funds for operating expenses are derived from overhead charges that are levied on contracts, funds from other non-profits, donations, etc.

BRCI Mission

Honor those who served by facilitating public and private funding to support innovative research and education initiatives conducted by VA Bedford Healthcare investigators and collaborators working to improve the health and well-being of Veterans.

What We Do

BRCI finds funding to support Veteran’s research and education and fulfills its mission of promoting and supporting research and education by providing direct support to Principal Investigators and their staff at the VA Bedford Healthcare System. We provide four essential services: contract/grant administration, human resources management, purchasing, and financial accounting.

What We Are Looking to Add

The Bedford VA Research Corporation, Inc. (BRCI) is always on the lookout for new community board members with a passion for supporting veterans and the research and education conducted through the VA Bedford Healthcare System. We are particularly interested in discussing board membership with those who are Veterans themselves and have strong business skills that will provide balance and a complimentary perspective. The Board is always comprised of representatives from the VA as well as members of the local community.

What We Expect

Board meetings are held quarterly. In between meetings, individual board members contribute their talents on an as-needed basis. Board members may be asked to serve on a subcommittee which meets in between quarterly Board Meetings. No financial contribution is required, and no financial compensation is provided to board members.
