Marigold Montessori is a small pre-school, offering an authentic Montessori experience in a diverse community. Haverhill, MA is located in the Merrimack Valley, approximately 35 miles north of Boston. The current Board Treasurer is retiring, effective 6/30/2024, and a replacement is being sought. This is a volunteer position with no compensation or expense reimbursement. Time commitment is approximately 5-20 hours/quarter.
The Head of School and a per diem bookkeeper maintain Quickbooks and work with a payroll service. An independent CPA has compiled and reviewed the financials for the past few years, and an audit will be performed for fiscal 2024. The school is financially stable and an approved 501(c)(3). Fundraising is done by the Head of School, primarily through grant applications. Marigold is part of the Wildflower Foundation of Montessori schools and receives some management consulting services.
The Treasurer does an informal review of the financial statements in anticipation of quarterly Board meetings, handles questions about accounting for unusual transactions, provides risk management advice, works with the CPA during the review or audit, and reviews the tax returns. All Board members occasionally help with school events such as Parents’ nights, information sessions, or community events, and therefore a local candidate is preferred.
Qualifications: Willingness to learn about the school and it’s financial records; commitment to attend quarterly Board meetings and work with the Head of School and other Board members as required; genuine interest in community service and the contribution that Montessori schools make to children and families. Financial or accounting background is desirable. Most Board members support the school financially as they are able, but there is no expected minimum,
