Farm Studio seeks two address two urgent, existential needs in our society today: 1) the failure of the university system to support young people wanting to transition into work life that is both meaningful and financially sustainable and 2) the degradation of our ecosystems fueled by large, conventional profit-centric farming.
Farm Studio proposes starting an apprenticeship that leverages the full depth of regenerative, biodynamic, farming and artisanal expertise in Sonoma County, California. Farm Studio will mentor people seeking to turn their personal wonder and gifts into an earth-based livelihood that provides meaning, sufficient income, and ecosystem benefits. In the first phase, all apprentices will work alongside biodynamic and regenerative farmers learning to cultivate vegetables, herbs, and flowers using methods that benefit the local ecosystem. In the second phase, apprentices will choose a focus and begin to ideate a future business, matched with appropriate mentors specializing in one of four areas: growing, healing, nourishing or artistry.
