Detailed Information

Affirmation: LGBTQ Mormons, Families & Friends is an international, volunteer-led nonprofit supporting LGBTQ people with a current or former connection to the Latter-day Saint/Mormon tradition, along with their families and friends. We create opportunities for belonging, connection, and support across diverse experiences of faith and identity.

We seek prospective board members with professional experience in these priority areas:

  1. Professional fundraising: donor cultivation, major gifts, grants, and sustainable development strategies.
  2. Digital strategy and social media: audience engagement, content strategy, and measurable communications results.
  3. Community organizing: volunteer engagement, coalition building, and strengthening local communities.
  4. Public relations: media relationships, public messaging, and organizational visibility.

We also welcome expertise in nonprofit governance, legal matters, human resources, finance and budgeting, strategic planning, nonprofit management, and issues affecting LGBTQ people with a Mormon background. Prior nonprofit board service is valuable.

Board service is unpaid. Directors contribute to governance, committee work, organizational strategy, and fundraising. The Board meets virtually on the second Sunday of each month, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Mountain Time, with preparation and follow-up between meetings.

There is no fixed minimum annual personal donation. Board members are expected to support fundraising through personally meaningful giving and/or helping cultivate donors, partnerships, and other financial support.

We seek collaborative, responsive directors who contribute time, follow through on commitments, and build relationships that advance our mission. We welcome diverse backgrounds and perspectives. LGBTQ community experience, international perspectives, and Spanish-language skills are valuable. A personal connection to the Mormon tradition is helpful; allies are also welcome.

Interested candidates will complete Affirmation’s application and screening process before consideration for appointment. Please share your relevant experience, interest in our mission, and availability for board service.
