Documentary Educational Resources (DER) envisions a world that embraces the dignity and interconnectedness of all people and celebrates individual and cultural differences as essential to the richness of our shared humanity. Through the distribution of an unparalleled catalog of classic non-fiction films and new acquisitions DER seeks to showcase a diversity of voices.
DER’s catalog includes 900+ titles, offering documentation of cultures around the world, including the U.S.’s largest collection of private and federally-funded “classic” anthropological films produced from the 1950s to 1980s. Nearly one-fourth of the films are by or about Indigenous communities, featuring notable works by some of the earliest Indigenous filmmakers.
Today, DER strives to model cultural sensitivity and innovation in the documentary filmmaking and distribution services provided to filmmakers, film participants, and viewers around the world.
