Global Access Pathway (GAP) is an early-stage, Boston-based initiative supporting international students who face financial and practical barriers when transitioning to life in the United States. While international students are often perceived as financially secure, many arrive with limited immediate resources, restricted work authorization, and no local support networks. The first few weeks after arrival are often the most challenging, with students needing to secure essential items such as clothing, bedding, phone access, and basic household goods while navigating an unfamiliar system.
GAP focuses on addressing these immediate, non-tuition needs through dignified and accessible support. Our pilot initiatives include a pop-up clothing model where students can select essential items in a respectful, “shop-style” environment, as well as early-stage planning for arrival readiness support, resource navigation, and community connection.
We are currently operating under fiscal sponsorship while preparing to incorporate as a Massachusetts nonprofit. As a founding-stage organization, we are building our initial Board of Directors and are looking for individuals who are not only aligned with our mission, but also interested in contributing to the development, structure, and long-term growth of the organization.
Board members will play a meaningful role in shaping GAP’s direction, including refining programs, supporting partnerships, strengthening fundraising efforts, and helping establish a strong and sustainable foundation. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in nonprofit governance, fundraising, community engagement, legal or financial oversight, and communications, though we also welcome those with a genuine commitment to expanding access and opportunity for international students.
GAP is grounded in the belief that education should be challenging, but meeting basic needs should not be. We aim to create a model of support that is practical, respectful, and rooted in dignity, while strengthening the broader community that international students contribute to.
