Role Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Volunteer Board Member to join our team. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the HATSOFF mission and who has a track record of board leadership. The Board Member will support the work of the Valor-Guard Initiative and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide governance and oversight to the Valor-Guard Initiative.
  2. Advise on strategic direction and policy development.
  3. Engage in fundraising and advocacy efforts to support the initiative.
  4. Review and approve annual budgets and material business decisions.
  5. Ensure the organization adheres to legal and ethical standards.
  6. Contribute to the overall promotion of the Valor-Guard Initiative.

Qualifications:

We are seeking exceptional candidates who bring a blend of professional expertise, passion for innovation, and a deep commitment to veterans’ welfare. The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Advanced Leadership Experience: A proven track record of strategic leadership in complex organizations. Experience at the executive level, such as C-suite or senior management roles, is highly desirable.
  2. Veterans’ Affairs Expertise: Direct experience in veterans’ affairs, military service, or a closely related field. A deep understanding of the challenges faced by veterans during their transition to civilian life.
  3. Innovative Mindset: A history of embracing and implementing innovative solutions in previous roles. Experience with AI, data science, or technology-driven projects is a significant plus.
  4. Strong Financial Acumen: Demonstrated experience in financial oversight, budget management, and resource allocation, particularly in non-profit or similar settings.
  5. Exceptional Networker: Established connections in relevant fields, including veteran services, healthcare, technology, or government, which can be leveraged to support the initiative.
  6. Advocacy and Fundraising Skills: A background in advocacy, with experience in fundraising or resource mobilization to support large-scale projects.
  7. Commitment to Ethics and Integrity: A reputation for ethical leadership and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in all dealings.
  8. Cultural Competency: An understanding of diverse cultural dynamics and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for veterans from all backgrounds.

Time and Financial Commitment:

  1. This role requires a commitment to the mission of HATSOFF and the ability to dedicate time for regular board meetings, strategic planning sessions, and other necessary engagements.
  2. Attendance at monthly board meetings.
  3. Participation in monthly committee meetings and special events.
  4. This is a volunteer position; however, all travel and accommodation expenses for meetings will be covered.
