About Launch Girls
Launch Girls is on a mission to equip adolescent girls with critical 21st-century professional skills, entrepreneurial mindsets, and confidence to successfully transition from school to work. We believe that girls can lead, create, and drive change, and we are here to help unlock that potential. When girls access the workforce and gain financial independence, they can break cycles of poverty and inequality for generations to come.
We are a global team of youth and gender experts creating economic empowerment programming for adolescent girls across Southeast Asia and Africa. Our Girl Boss programs are cost-effective, easy to replicate, locally adapted, and delivered through our global network of trusted, girl-serving organizations. Board of Directors
Our all-volunteer Board of Directors is composed of engaged leaders who are dedicated to empowering adolescent girls. Board members are responsible for providing oversight and guidance, raising money, and generating awareness. We are actively seeking a passionate and committed Board Member at Large to join our board.
Role and Responsibilities
Governance and Strategy:
- Provide guidance and oversight in the organization’s governance, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards as well as accountability.
- Approve policies, strategies, and annual budgets.
- Prepare for and attend board meetings, conference calls, and special events, actively participating in discussions and decision-making processes.
- Oversee the hiring and performance evaluation of any Chief Officer, promoting strong leadership within the organization.
- Commit to a two-year board term with the option of renewal.
Financial and Fundraising Participation:
- Prioritize Launch Girls as a top philanthropic commitment.
- Actively participate in fundraising efforts, leveraging personal networks, and collaborating with staff to secure significant donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Serve as an advocate for Launch Girls and introduce members of your personal and professional networks to Launch Girls in order to identify and cultivate partnerships, board candidates, and donors.
- Help Launch Girls secure corporate sponsorships, in-kind contributions, and institutional grants.
- Participate in high-level cultivation calls, events, and asks with potential donors.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Understand, support, and promote the mission of Launch Girls. Share a passion for global gender equity and improving the lives of adolescent girls.
- Willing to bring your unique skills, experiences, and perspectives to Launch Girls.
- Make a personally meaningful financial contribution annually.
- Commit a minimum of 30 hours to Launch Girls
- 10 hours for up to 6 Board meetings held throughout the year
- 20 additional hours of volunteering to support programming, fundraising, governance, etc. on committees or directly with Launch Girls leadership.
- Possess relevant professional experience, expertise, or interest that aligns with the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Understand and fulfill fiduciary responsibilities, acting in the best interest of Launch Girls and our beneficiaries.
- Help recruit new board members.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities, including the ability to collaborate effectively, make informed decisions, and communicate persuasively.
