Thanks for having a look at Pen Parentis! Our 501c3 nonprofit helps writers stay on creative track after they have kids. Here’s our outreach site.

WHO WE ARE

Pen Parents provides critical resources to working writers to help them stay on creative track after starting a family.

We are in a vibrant growth phase and need board members with business acumen and expertise in strategic planning, nonprofit governance, contract negotiations, grant writing, management or finance.

To serve, you must only have a passion for books or a passion for writing, and a passion for making the world better. Our mission speaks to work-life balance, equality, inclusion, professionalism, and community-building. If you share these values and want to help grow the organizational capacity of a scrappy little nonprofit into a sustainable, nationally-known name, we would love to meet you!

BENEFITS OF SERVING

As a small nonprofit, we’re excited to welcome you into our small, dynamic group! Every member of our team is essential to our success! By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to share your business expertise with passionate writers/artists who share your interests and values and who are eager to learn from you!

Your real-world experience will make a meaningful difference as we grow.

THE BASICS

Ready to make a difference in the world of literature?

  • Whether you’re a parent, a writer, or have other reasons to care about the cause, we want YOU to be a part of our community.
  • Your board dues of a minimum of $2400 annually sustain our mission of supporting writer parents across the USA. (An entirely voluntary gift of $3500 for the first year to show your commitment to the cause would greatly benefit our growth.)
  • Use your experience and expertise as a Board Member to advocate for Pen Parents; your personal and professional connections truly matter!
  • Have a voice at our online Executive Board meetings (specific committees may meet more frequently). Plus, our annual meeting in December is a must-attend event! Schedule available – meetings are 7pm on Thursday nights six times per year on Zoom. You do not have to live in NYC to serve.
  • Join our Board for a three-vear renewable term and see just how much fun you can have while making a real impact in the world of literature!

Show your interest by filling out this Google Form.

You can also email MM directly MM@PenParentis.org if you have questions. We are small and intimate and friendly – we want to get to know you and really use the experience and resources that you want to share – we genuinely love books and writers and writing and need business acumen to keep this amazing community growing and thriving into the future.  Check out some of our past events at youtube.com/penparentis
