Member of the Board of Directors Position The Board will support the work of Together Estranged and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by TEÕs chief executive officer (CEO), the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include: Leadership, governance and oversight:
    • Serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO as she/he develops and implements TEÕs strategic plan
    • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by TE for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
    • Approving TEÕs annual budget, audit reports, and materials business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
    • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the CEO
    • Assisting the CEO and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
    • Partnering with the CEO and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
    • Representing Together Estranged to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
    • Ensuring TEÕs commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities TE serves
Fundraising: TE Board Members will consider TE a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that TE can credibly solicit contributions from foundation, organizations, and individuals, TE expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity ($250 annually). Board Terms/Participation TEÕs Board Member will serve a one-year, two-year or three-year term, with potential eligibility for re-appointment for one additional term once the initial term is completed. Board meetings will be held quarterly and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings. Qualifications This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about TEÕs mission and who wants to become part of the first known nationwide nonprofit to serve this population. Those with a sincere passion for helping those estranged from family are strongly encouraged to apply. Selected Board Members will have experience in social work, business, psychology, marketing, public relations, higher education or the nonprofit sector. Her/his drive to successfully carry out TE’s mission will allow her/him to attract other driven, high-performing Board Members. Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
    • A professional background in social work, business, psychology, marketing, public relations, higher education or the nonprofit sector
    • A commitment to and understanding of TEÕs beneficiaries, preferably based on personal experience with estrangement
    • A desire to promote a culturally diverse atmosphere, with a track record of fostering inclusivity and multiculturalism
    • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating and building consensus among diverse individuals
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of TEÕs beneficiaries. Service on TEÕs Board of Directors is without remuneration.
